Biography
Daniel Hernández Jr. is an American politician, who was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in the 2016 elections. A member of the Arizona Democratic Party, he will serve alongside Rosanna Gabaldón in Legislative District 2.
A graduate of the University of Arizona, Hernández had his first job after graduating as an intern in the office of congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Less than one week into that job, Giffords was injured in the 2011 Tucson shooting, at which Hernández was credited with saving her life. Later that year, he was elected to the board of the Sunnyside Unified School District, on which he served until running for the state legislature.
He is openly gay.
Hernandez endorsed a 2016 ballot measure to legalize recreation marijuana in Arizona.

- 2016 Hernandez and Democratic incumbent Rosanna Gabaldon defeated Republican incumbent J. Christopher Ackerley in the general election with Hernandez receiving 32,651 votes.
