Biography

Clara Blom Christensen (born October 15, 1996), professionally known as Cobrah (stylized in all caps) is a Swedish rapper, singer, songwriter and producer. Prior to releasing music, Christensen worked as an elementary school music teacher. She started using the name Cobrah in November 2018, with the release of her debut single "IDFKA".

Christensen extended her discography in 2019 with an EP titled "ICON". That same year, Charli XCX brought her out on stage. Following the 2019 venture, she released another EP in 2021, eponymously titled "Cobrah". This EP spawned the single "Good Puss", which later in 2022 got a remix featuring Cupcakke. Christensen is a lesbian and describes her work as "goth, queer, scandi realness."

Her EP "Succubus" was nominated for a Swedish Grammis 2024, in the category "Electro/Dance".

Early life

Christensen was raised in Gothenburg, Sweden. At the age of four, she moved from the urban part of the city to the suburban community. Christensen was a flautist. In high school, she studied musical theatre. As a teenager, she expressed adoration for goth clothing, but her mother didn't. This made her hide these pieces of clothing in her book bag and change into them before going to school. In 2017, she moved to Berlin in order to find music producers to work with.

Career

2017-2019: Early career and Icon

After moving to Berlin, Christensen connected with various music producers and began experimenting with numerous types of music. She eventually stuck with the music producers Hannes Roover and Gusten Galqvist, the former of whom she met in Sweden before moving to Berlin. She released her debut single, "IDFKA" (acronym for "I Don't Fucking Know Anymore"), in 2018. In a 2020 interview about her debut single she said, "“Like, honestly, everything… That song just keeps giving me a new meaning every week. It was about growing up and having a very ambivalent relationship with sex and romance. As I think most teenagers do, especially teenage girls that are looking for a place of belonging. It's easy to be taken advantage of, and it's very hard when you're a kid to realise when it happens.” She released more singles throughout 2019 to promote the upcoming release of her debut extended play, "Icon". The singles include "Wet" and "U Know Me". After the promotion cycle of Icon, she released the single "Tea" in collaboration with British radio station Rinse FM and performed with Charli XCX.

2020-2022: Eponymous extended play and distribution deal with Artist Partner Group

She released the single "Debut" in 2020, which was followed by critical acclaim. Paper Magazine called it "no exception" and did an interview with her prior to release. In 2021, Christensen created her record label, "Gagball" to release copyrighted music under a distribution contract to Artist Partner Group. She released her self-titled extended play on 21 May 2021. She followed up the release of "Cobrah" with the "Good PusS" remix, featuring Cupcakke. Christensen was included on the 2022 edition of NME's essential new artists for the year.

2023-present: Succubus and world tour

In 2023, she gave her distribution rights to Atlantic Records and released her first single with them, titled "Suck" in June 2023 On August 11, the second single "Manic" was released and a third one titled "Feminine Energy" was released on September 8 alongside the announcement of her third EP, "Succubus", released on October 13.
