Clement Woodnutt Miller (October 28, 1916 – October 7, 1962) was a U.S. Representative from California,.

Biography

He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on October 28, 1916.

Miller graduated from the Lawrenceville School, from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, in 1940, and briefly attended Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1946. Enlisted in the United States Army in 1940. He served as a private in the Two Hundred and Fifty-eighth Field Artillery Regiment and was discharged in 1945 as a captain in the One Hundred and Fourth Infantry Division, with service in the Netherlands and Germany. Veterans service officer in Nevada in 1946 and 1947. Employment service, State of Nevada, in 1947. Field examiner and hearing officer of the National Labor Relations Board for Northern California 1948–1953. He became a landscape consultant in 1954. He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1956 to the Eighty-fifth Congress.

Miller was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-sixth and Eighty-seventh Congresses. Rep. Miller authored the legislation that established Point Reyes National Seashore.

He served in Congress from January 3, 1959, until his death in an airplane accident near Eureka, California on October 7, 1962. He was interred in Point Reyes National Seashore, north of San Francisco, California.

Legacy

He was a grandson of Charles R. Miller and a nephew of Thomas W. Miller, and the grandfather of poet and rapper George Watsky.

Miller was elected posthumously to the Eighty-eighth Congress.
