August Cinjun Tate is an American singer and songwriter and the founding member of alternative rock Remy Zero.
Career
August Cinjun Tate, who is most often referred to by his middle name Cinjun is the native of Birmingham, Alabama. He and his brother, Shelby Tate, founded the Birmingham, Alabama-based alternative rock Remy Zero, in 1989. Cinjun is the vocalist/guitarist, Shelby is the guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist, and the other members are Cedric LeMoyne (bass), Jeffrey Cain (guitar, vocals), and Louis Schefano (drums). Schefano was later replaced by drummer Gregory Slay.
Remy Zero released the self-titled debut album in 1996. The band became best known to television audiences for "Save Me", the theme song to the Superman teen drama Smallville. The song, which is from their third and last album The Golden Hum, (2001) was performed by Cinjun. Their song "Shattered" was used in the films Crazy/Beautiful and Suicide Kings, "Prophecy" in She's All That and The Last Kiss, "Gramarye" appeared in Stigmata, and "Temenos (Here Come the Shakes)" played in the film The Chamber.
Tate also composed the soundtrack for Amy Jo Johnson's first feature film, The Space Between, released in 2017.
Remy Zero disbanded after making The Golden Hum and many of its members went on to join new bands. Cinjun and his brother, Shelby, created Spartan Fidelity in 2004; Cain joined Isidore and later created Dead Snares; LeMoyne toured with Alanis Morissette's band before joining O+S and later Rose of the West; and Slay created Sleepwell.
Personal life
Cinjun Tate is the ex-husband of American actress Alyssa Milano with whom he was married from January 1 to November 20, 1999.
In a September 2018 interview with Consequence of Sound, Cinjun publicly acknowledged that he had suffered from cancer and beaten it.
