Biography

Christopher David MacBurnie (born May 9, 1981) is an internationally known commercial producer and writer as well as a host on Punk Radio Cast's The Grind on PRC.

Early life

MacBurnie born in Calgary, Alberta was the first child in his family. From the outset he was on his way to growing into the unique individual that he is today thanks in part to his childhood and having a professional zipper tooth designer(his mother) and a luchadore (his father) for parents. MacBurnie has one younger brother.

While born in Canada, MacBurnie's childhood would take him across the globe thanks his father's line of work. A large portion of his early years were spent in South America. Here he would quickly learn Spanish, despite living in the Portuguese speaking nation of Brazil. However, Brazil was just one of many stops in South America. Moving from one nation to the next as his father followed work, Chris would take up hunting feral mangoes in the Latin American rain forest.

Education

Christopher MacBurnie is a graduate of the broadcast program at Calgary's esteemed Mount Royal College.

Career

His career started with an internship at Midwest Broadcasting (now Newcap Broadcasting) an independent radio and television broadcaster in Lloydminster, Alberta. Early goings would see Chris become firmly entrenched with broadcasting thanks to being surrounded by the diversity of talent and unique individuals employed at the station. However, MacBurnie nearly left broadcasting altogether after dealing with a producer who would soon become what he would call his "arch-nemesis". There run-ins would include: A series of voice modulated phone threats asking for ridiculous ransoms for personal items worth little themselves. As well as what MacBurnie has dubbed "Nickname Day" - the day the producer decided that everyone, MacBurnie included, needed a new name. (Names ranged from "Cappy" to the crass "Donkey Punch") Tired of the nonsense he would eventually seek refuge in his hometown of Calgary.

Back home in Calgary MacBurnie found temporary work as a radio announcer for a hip-hop radio station. This would not last. He would later comment saying he had "grown restless and disillusioned" from the gig. Having a taste for the eclectic life at Midwest Broadcasting and secretly missing the mango hunts of his youth, he prepared to move on. At this time a job had opened up at Midwest Broadcasting. Shortly thereafter he would land it and return to Lloydminster and go corporate.

Shortly after his "corporate" change, MacBurnie became involved with internet radio sensation Punk Radio Cast. After joining up with PRC he started hosting his own show "The Grind" under the name "Burnside". That new gig entailed going to numerous concerts and shows across western Canada interviewing the likes of The Real McKenzies, Bad Religion, The Dreadnoughts, The Buzzcocks, Alexisonfire, Death By Stereo, Strung Out, Rise Against, Booze Cruise and Broadcast Zero to name a few.

Since the demise of PunkRadiocast, Chris Burnside currently hosts the show The Grind, on Australian streaming radio website, www.Punkrockradio.net, and on his own website, www.thegrindprc.ca ; The show is widely recognized across the punk rock community, and now complete with 2 other reporter interviewers who began in 2008 and 2009 respectively; Stacey Steel, who covers Western Canada and West Coast USA, and Marc Ryan, who covers Eastern Canada and Europe.

This trio, with Chris, Stacey & Marc, continue to interview, report and make news on The Grind on PunkRockRadio.net.

Personal life

Details regarding his personal life are sparse. He resides in Lloydminster, is married, and has 2 cats. MacBurnie makes semi-regular trips back to South America to hunt and slaughter whats left of the feral mango population. PETA is considering action.
