Biography
Sir Joseph Brian Donnelly KBE CMG is a retired British diplomat.
Education: Workington Grammar School, The Queen's College Oxford (1963–66) (Wyndham scholar, MA, ed Cherwell), University of Wisconsin-Madison (MA) He began an M.Phil at LSE, but left in 1970 and began working at GCHQ.
In 1973 he began working at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He served in the UK Mission to the UN, and then in Singapore, Athens, and NATO before being appointed as UK Ambassador to Yugoslavia, and later served as Ambassador to Zimbabwe. After leaving the diplomatic service, he worked as a Special Advisor to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. In retirement he served on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and the Special Immigration Appeals Commission.
He is an honorary fellow of the Queen's College Oxford.
