Biography
William Gifford "Billy" Johnston (16 January 1901 in Edinburgh – after 1932) was a Scottish professional footballer, who played for Huddersfield Town, Stockport County, Manchester United, Macclesfield Town, Oldham Athletic and Frickley.
Johnston won the F.A. Cup and First Division Championship with Huddersfield Town as well as the 1922 Charity Shield. He played for Manchester United in the First Division before two seasons at Macclesfield and returned Manchester United in the 1931/32 season, following their relegation to the Second Division. In later years Johnston moved to Frickley, taking on the roles of manager and club secretary as well as player and played a large role in securing the future of the football club in 1936.
