Beth Mburu-Bowie also known as HowAboutBeth (born April 1987) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, activist, and trustee.
Background
Mburu-Bowie celebrates a varied career as a musician, composer and arts administrator. Performing and recording with The Heavy, Pink Floyd, Matthew Herbert, Chuck Berry, English National Opera, Eric Lau, Hugh Masekela Super Nashwan, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Dan Le Sac, Madness, Royal Opera House and the Pipettes.
Mburu-Bowie is also a trustee of the legendary Roundhouse venue in Camden famous for hosting the performances of Bob Dylan Jeff Beck, Patti Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and The Clash. At the time of her nomination she was the youngest member to join the board of trustees.
She is currently pursuing a career as a solo artist, collaborating with a number of high-profile artists to deliver a series of song cycles she calls Rabid Ballads.
In 2011 HowAboutBeth began performing with Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip after recording vocals for Dan Le Sac's debut solo album, Space Between Words. She is credited as a lead vocalist on two songs from Space Between Words including the first single of the album, 'Caretaker' a song written by B.Dolan and Dan Le Sac
HowAboutBeth has also been a featured vocalist on the Friendly Fires 2012 tour.
After a chance meeting with Andrew Butler of Hercules and Love Affair she was asked to join Hercules and Love Affair and has been touring and recording as a member of the band in 2012. On Monday 6 August she was invited to sing 'Raise Me Up', ' Time Will' and 'Blind' with Antony and The Johnsons in his first and only live performance with the band since recording the album.
Solo work
In 2010 it was announced via MySpace that she will be creating new music under the moniker HowAboutBeth
Beth was later listed in the following article by On-Point, a respected blog about European music as one to watch for making "brilliant, original music in 2010" alongside TV On The Radio, Ty, Micachu, CocknBullKid, Grammy nominated Musinah, RBMA Alumni Tokimonsta and Nneka.
