Biography

Bessie Dorrington Bangay (1889–1987) was a Bishop's messenger in the Church of England.
Bangay was born in 1889 as a twin. She moved to Chesham, Bucks in 1910 and started to help at St George's Church, Tyler's Hill, Ley Hill, near Chesham, Bucks, England. In 1917, she was licensed the Bishop of Oxford, as one of 22 women into the Diocesan Order of Women's Messengers, which were female lay readers in the Church of England.
She died in 1987 aged 97 and was the last Bishop's Messenger left in England. She is buried at St George's churchyard.
