Bernard Romans

Bernard Romans (c. 1720 – 1784) was a Dutch-born American military engineer, cartographer, naturalist, geographer, and surveyor. He was one of the earliest mapmakers in the United States and is known for his detailed maps of Florida and the Gulf Coast.

Bernard Romans lived and worked in various locations, including London, the Caribbean, and several American colonies. In 1776, he settled in New York City and became a prominent figure in the scientific and intellectual circles of the city.
