Biography

Beka Kurkhuli (ბექა ქურხული) - (born 6 October 1974, Tbilisi, Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic) is a modern Georgian writer.

Biography

Beka Kurkhuli was born in 1974 in Tbilisi. He finished Tbilisi 1st Experimental School in 1991. In the same year he entered Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli State Theatre Institute, faculty of Drama Art and graduated in 1996 . He finished Tamaz Chiladze's class. His first novel was published in Mamuli newspaper in 1991 . After that his stories were regularly published in different newspapers and magazines : "Alternativa", "Arili", "Dilis GazeTi", "Chveni Taoba", "Tsignebi", "Parnasi" , "Literaturuli Palitra", "Literaturuli gazeti", "Literatura" , "Tskheli Shokoladi".

He used to be "Dilis GazeTi " war correspondent in Georgia and Caucasus conflict areas in 1999-2004. Beka Kurkhuli was making reports from Abkhazia (Gali region, Kodori Gorge. ), Tskhinvali region(Tskhinvali, Nikozi, Didi Liakhvi Gorge, Tamarasheni), South Ossetia and Ingushetia (Vladikavkaz, Nazari, Magasi), Azerbaijan (Baku) and Pankisi Gorge.

His first book "Tsertili. . . dakarguli teritoriis dakarguli adamianebi " (Dot… Lost people of the lost territory ") was published in 2004 by "Dilis GazeTi and Caucasian House. Printing house "Saari" published his prosaic work "Sakhli skhvagan" ( The House on Other Place.) in 2005. This book became a finalist of Saba Literary Award in a "Best prosaic work" nomination. He made a presentation of a doctoral thesis on the theme "Campaigns and raids in the mountains of East Georgia" in 2006. Printing house "Pegasi" published his book "The Meeting Afterwards". The novels "Adamo", "Empty Ashtray ", "The Short Summer Night", "10 000 words" were published in the prosaic work "Best 39 novels" by printing house "Palitra"in 2010.

In 2013 Beka Kurkhuli was sent to Afghanistan as a war correspondent by "Liberali" newspaper. His novel "Musa-Kala" is based on the events which took place while his being in Afghanistan.

In 2014 Beka Kurkhuli was awarded Revaz Inanishvili Award. In 2016 he received a literary award Saba in the category "Best Novel of the Year" - the first prize

His short novels are translated into English, Lithuanian, Russian and Armenian languages. His works are also published in Russian literary magazine Fraternity of Peoples.
