Biography

Bart McCarthy is an American screenwriter, stage, film, and television actor known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy (2010-2013), Murder of a Cat (2014), Silicon Valley(2015), and Plus One (2019), among others.

Early life and education

McCarthy was raised in Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin and later, a Master of Fine Arts degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Career

After finishing his education, McCarthy founded Boston Arts Group, an avant-garde theater complex, while playing various roles in local theaters, as well as directing a dance company. National Endowment for the Humanities (N.E.H.) funded his one-man show, Lincoln Play, which performed over 500 shows throughout New England and Great Britain.

McCarthy made his television debut in 1984, playing a journalist from Miami in "Concealed Enemies, Part I: Suspicion" episode of American Playhouse. Since then, he has played a variety of roles in films and television series such as 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996-1997), Babylon 5 (1997-1998), Rat Race (2001), Miss Match (2003) and Sons of Anarchy (2010).

His most recent screen appearance was in 2019 in Jeff Chan and Andrew Rhymer-directed Plus One, with Jack Quaid, Maya Erskine, Beck Bennett, and Jessy Hodgesin the lead cast. He has finished filming for Benjamin Wong's drama The Longest Sleep, in which he will be seen in the role of "Mark Rosenthal" alongside Lawrence Kao, Kai Cech, Brian Thompson, and Michael Paul Chan.

Teaching

In addition to acting and performing, McCarthy has also taught dance improvisation at Goddard College, Plainfield, Vermont; Vermont College; Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts; and independent studios.
