Biography
Barry Stowe (born 1958/59) is an American business executive. He is the chairman and CEO of Prudential plc's North American businesses encompassing Jackson National Life, PPM America and National Planning Holdings. Jackson is a Lansing, Michigan-based U.S. life insurance company. In 2015 it had an estimated US$218 billion worth of assets and is the leading writer of variable annuity retirement products in the United States. PPM America is a Chicago-based asset manager with $111 billion of assets under management. National Planning Holdings manages one of the largest broker dealer networks in the U.S. with over 3,500 registered representatives.
Early life
Barry Stowe is a seventh-generation Nashvillian and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution[1]. He graduated from Lipscomb Academy in 1975, and from Lipscomb University with a bachelor's degree in politics in 1979. Barry Stowe was Lipscomb University's alumnus of the year in 2009.
Career
From 2001 to 2006, Barry Stowe was president of AIG Life Companies Accident and Health Worldwide, a business unit responsible for over $2 billion of earnings in 2005. In mid-2006 he was appointed Chief Executive of Prudential Corporation Asia, a subsidiary of Prudential Plc. During his tenure he led a transformation resulting in an increase in profits of more than 500% over a nine-year period. In June 2015 Stowe was named chairman and CEO of Prudential plc's North American business unit (encompassing Jackson National Life, PPM America and National Planning Holdings). He has been a member of the board of directors and the group executive committee of Prudential plc since October 2006.
Personal life
Barry Stowe is married to Sherri Stewart Stowe, and they have three daughters. He is a trustee of Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Museum of Art in Nashville.
