Biography

Barbara Tarbuck was an American actress best known for her role as "Lady Jane Jacks" in General Hospital.

Early life and education

Tarbuck was born on January 15, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, USA.

She attended Cooley High School in Detroit.

Her acting career began at a young age when she performed as a regular for a children's series called "Storyland", which aired on the AM radio station WWJ in Detroit, Michigan. She got to learn from veteran actors who had worked on The Lone Ranger, The Shadow and The Green Hornet.

She graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1963 from Wayne State University, Detroit. She won the Eva Woodridge Victor scholarship while at the university.

She then received her Master's degree in Theatre from the University of Michigan.

Career

When Tarbuck was at the Wayne State University, she participated in the production of Where's Charley, which toured through Europe.

She then moved to Indiana to perform as the lead actress in the inaugural theatre touring company season for Indiana University. At Indiana University, she was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). She then moved to London. 

She also taught acting at UCLA for years. 

After her training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, she moved to New York to pursue acting career. In New York, she was very active in the theatre and Broadway circuit. She performed in Harold Pinter's "Landscape & Silence," David Mamet's "Water Engine," Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and "Broadway Bound", Joseph Chaikin's "America Hurrah!", and "Enter The Night" by Marie Irene Fornes.

She worked in numerous television shows - prominent being: Charlie's Angels and The Incredible Hulk in 1979, M*A*S*H in 1982, ER in 1994, Cold Case in 2003, Glee, Mad Men, and Dexter in 2013, and General Hospital from 1994 to 2010.

Her major films include  Big Trouble (1986), directed by John Cassavetes; John Hughes' Curly Sue (1991); The Tie That Binds (1995); and Walking Tall (2004).

Personal Life

Tarbuck married James Denis Connolly on 17 May 1980. Her husband died on 19 February 2005.
Tarbuck died on December 27, 2016 of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease at her Los Angeles home. She was 74. 
The couple had a daughter. In addition to her daughter, survivors include son-in-law Samuel Chawinga and grandsons Cianan and Cuinn Chawinga.
