Biography

Auston Levi-Jesaiah Trusty (born August 12, 1998) is an American soccer player who plays for Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.

Youth career

Trusty began his soccer career at Nether United Soccer based in Wallingford, PA. Beginning at the recreational level, he worked his way through the travel ranks with his teams earning several regional USYS cup titles during his early high school career. Trusty was chosen to take part in the Philadelphia Union Youth Academy along with several Nether teammates where he finished his youth career before moving to his professional career.

Club career

Bethlehem Steel FC

Trusty signed to play with United Soccer League side Bethlehem Steel FC in 2016 on an amateur contract to allow him to still be eligible to play college soccer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, whom he had verbally agreed to join after graduating from Penncrest high school. Despite the verbal agreement, Trusty would not attend college, instead focusing on his professional career.

Philadelphia Union

Trusty's efforts paid off midway through the 2016 season when he signed a Homegrown Player contract with Philadelphia Union on August 10, 2016. He was the second homegrown signing of 2016, following fellow Bethlehem Steel FC teammate Derrick Jones.

In 2018, Trusty made 34 regular-season appearances (34 starts) at centerback, totaling one goal and one assist. He was the only player on the Union to play every minute of every regular-season match, setting a new league record for the youngest field player to do so over a 34-game regular season. He started in the 2018 MLS Homegrown Game. He scored his first career MLS goal off of a corner kick vs. Montreal. He recorded the game-winning assist vs. Sporting KC (September 23) and was also named to the MLS Team of the Week (Week 30).

Colorado Rapids

At the conclusion of the 2019 season, the Union announced Trusty was traded to the Colorado Rapids for at total of $750,000 in allocation money and a sell-on clause.

International career

U.S. U-20 Men's National Team

On February 9, 2017, United States under-20 men's national team head coach Tab Ramos selected Trusty to the 20-man roster that competed in the 2017 World Cup qualifying tournament in Costa Rica. The team won the tournament and qualified for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. At that tournament on June 1, 2017, Trusty entered a game against New Zealand. Within minutes of entering the game he netted a left footed goal in the top right corner in one motion as the ball was passed to him during a corner kick. Social media hashtags depicting the phrase #TrustyTheProcess became a popular post for several Philadelphia area fans cheering on the emergence of their homegrown star.

U.S. National Team

On December 20, 2018, Trusty received his first senior call up for a friendly against Panama.
