Biography
General Augusto Tasso Fragoso, better known as Tasso Fragoso (São Luiz, Maranhão August 28, 1869 – September 20, 1945) was a Brazilian soldier and author.He led a coup d'etat that deposed Washington Luís on 24 October 1930 and prevented president-elect Julio Prestes from assuming the presidency of the Republic of Brazil.He was chief of the Provisional Governing Council (Junta Governativa Provisória) which handed the presidency to Getúlio Vargas on 3 November 1930. He was also the cousin of Portuguese President António Óscar Fragoso Carmona.
