Biography

Assad Bucaram Elmhalin (24 December 1916 – 5 November 1981) was an Ecuadorian politician of Lebanese descent, he occupied positions as city Councilor and later of Mayor of Guayaquil (1962-1963, 1968-1970). He was elected a Deputy for the province of Guayaquil and was later appointed President of the National Assembly of Ecuador.

After running into a conflict with the leadership of his political party he created the populist Concentración de Fuerzas Populares party (CFP) in alliance with Carlos Guevara Moreno. CFP was later to carry the campaign that elected Jaime Roldós Aguilera to the presidency of Ecuador in 1979 after more than 18 years of de facto regimes.

Personal life
