Asato Ikeda is Japanese Author, curator, educator and currently an assistant professor of art at Fordham University.
Biography
Ikeda gained her BA degree in History of Art from the University of Victoria in in 2006, her MA in Art History from Carleton University in 2008 and her Doctor of Philosohy, Art History, Visual Art and theory from the University of British Columbia (where she was the head of the graduating class in the Faculty of graduate studies).
As a writer and editor Ikeda is a much published authority on Japanese art. Therein with Ming Tiampo and Aya Louisa McDonald, she edited an anthology titled "Art and War in Japan and its Empire, 1931-1960 "(Leiden: Brill, 2012), the first English-language book on the subject.
As a curator Ikeda created the exhibition "Third Gender: Beautiful Youths in Japanese Prints" which premiered at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto from May 7 until November 27,
2016and is now currently on view from March 10 to June 11, 2017 at the Japan Society in New York City.
