Biography
Steven Rodriguez (November 13, 1988 – January 18, 2015), professionally known as ASAP Yams (stylized as A$AP Yams), was an American music executive, A&R, and co-founder of the A$AP Worldwide record label. Hailing from the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, he is one of the three founding members of the hip hop collective A$AP Mob, from which he adopted his moniker.
Career
In 2006, A$AP Yams formed the hip hop collective internationally known as A$AP Mob, with fellow New Yorkers, now known as A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz. The collective would later include A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast and A$AP Twelvyy, among others.
Throughout his career as a music executive, Yams would executive produce many of A$AP Mob's and their members' albums. He executive produced A$AP Mob's 2012 mixtape Lord$ Never Worry, A$AP Rocky's 2013 studio album LONG.LIVE.A$AP, A$AP Ferg's 2013 studio album Trap Lord, and A$AP Rocky's 2015 studio album AT.LONG.LAST A$AP.
In September 2014, Yams appeared in the Noisey documentary "A$AP Rocky: SVDDXLNY" alongside A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast and A$AP Twelvyy.
Death
On January 18, 2015, Yams was found dead at the age of 26. The cause of death was ruled an overdose due to mixed drug intoxication. However ASAP Mob members and affiliates, say Yams died due to his sleep apnea, which caused asphyxiation and pulmonary aspiration.
