Biography

Arnt Håkon Ånesen (born 20 January 1977 in Fauske) is a is a Norwegian contemporary composer.

Career

Ånesen studied composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Lasse Thoresen, Bjørn Kruse and Olav Anton Thommesen.

Ånesen’s works have seen performances in Australia, Japan Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Italy, Greece, Spain, England, France, Austria and Canada as well in the Nordic countries. Ånesen’s compositions have been featured at festivals such as the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, UNM, the Northern Light Festival, the Peer Gynt Festival and Nordland Musikkfestuke. December 2009 saw the Norwegian Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra premiering Ånesen’s commissioned work NOR. Other performers and orchestral institutions that have commissioned works by Ånesen includes Kroumata Percussion Ensemble, Ketil Hugaas, Arctic Sinfonietta, Sergej Tchirkov, NorthArc Percussion, NoXaS, AJO Ensemble, Concerts Norway, the Norwegian Academy of Music, Ensemble Fanfaronner, Bodø Sinfonietta, BIT20 Ensemble, Kristine Tjøgersen and Pål Rullestad.

Ånesen is also a recipient of grants from Domaine Forget (Canada), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Norway), TONO, Norwegian Society of Composers, Vestfold County and Fauske municipality.

Ånesen is also active in other styles and genres, and has released a number of electro-pop outings. He is also active as a teacher in composition at the Edvard Munch High School and Barratt Due Institute of Music and is the author of a digital teaching tool featured by NRK.
