Biography
Arbab Muhammad Zahir (12 October 1945 – 25 July 2016) was a Pakistani politician who served as Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He also served as Minister of State for Narcotics and Defence.
Early life and education
Zahir was born to politician Arbab Noor Mohammad Khan on 12 October 1945.
He received his early education from Aitchison College, Lahore He received degree in bachelor of law from Khyber Law College, University of Peshawar and completed his masters in law from the United States.
Political career
After completion his education, he entered in politics assisted his father. He was elected to Peshawar district council in 1983 local government elections and became the vice chairman of the council.
He was elected to provincial assembly for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the first time in Pakistani general election, 1985.
He ran for the seat of provincial assembly for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistani general election, 1988 on the ticket of the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad, but was unsuccessful.
He joined the Awami National Party around 1990 and was elected to the National Assembly in Pakistani general election, 1990.
He was re-elected to the National Assembly seat on ANP ticket in the Pakistani general election, 1993 and Pakistani general election, 1997.
He ran for the seat of National Assembly in Pakistani general election, 2002, but was unsuccessful.
He was re-elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from NA-4 (Peshawar-IV) on ANP ticket in Pakistani general election, 2008.
He was made minister of state for Defence in 2008 but was removed in 2009 due to poor performance. He then appointed as the federal minister for narcotics in 2010.
He was unable contest the Pakistani general election, 2013 due to health issues.
He died 2016.
