Biography
Anne Savedge is an American photographic artist, art educator, and art curator. In 1979 she served as president of the Richmond Artists Association.
Education and teaching
Anne Savedge studied at James Madison University and Virginia Commonwealth University. She has taught at the Chesterfield Technical Center, John Tyler Community College, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
1708 Gallery
Anne Savedge is an emeritus artist board member of 1708 Gallery. She has curated shows for 1708 and exhibited her art at 1708 in its Broad Street location and in its satellite outreach exhibitions elsewhere. Savedge is one of the Richmond art leaders honored with the exhibition Landmarks II exhibition by 1708 at the Inn at Linden Row, a show which also included the work of artistsGregg Carbo, Tom Chenoweth, Paul DiPasquale, Gerald Donato, Danny Finney, Joan Gaustad, Chris Gregson, Kathryn Henry-Choisser, Davi Det Hompson, Diego Sanchez,Kendra Wadsworth, and Aggie Zed.
Exhibitions
Themes and names of photographic series by Savedge include cowgirls, waterfalls, swimmers, and belly dancers. Her exhibition Shootin' at Artspace in 2016 was based on her interest in Westerns and cowboys. Her exhibition Seasons and Gardens was shown at Artspace in 2012. She is a member of the Virginia Society of Photographic Artists (VSPA) and participates in their shows. Savedge was chosen as one of the artists with over 25 years of outstanding careers for a show at the Richmond Public Library. In 2013, she participated in Herald I, also at the Richmond Public Library, along with eleven other artists. Andras Bality, Brad Birchett, Kathleen Markowitz, Sarah Masters, Elaine Rogers, Diego Sanchez, Tom Chambers, Pam Fox, John Heroy, Medford Taylor, and David R. White. Awards and Honors
Beginning in 1994, she became a member of a SkillsUSA National Education Team. She received a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Professional Fellowship in 2001-2002 and an individual artist fellowship from the Virginia Commission for the Arts in 1999. She received a Virginia Art Educator of the Year award in 1998 and a Teacher of the Year award from the Trade and Industrial Education group in 2005. In 2000 she was selected Southeastern Art Educator of the Year. Also in 2000 she received honorable mention from the Santa Fe Center for the Visual Arts for an Excellence in Photographic Teaching Award. She participated in an international teacher development and exchange with Cheshire, England in 1994. She received an Artists in Education Grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts in 1988.
Photography
Her photographs and her quotations about photographic processes have been used in books and other publications by noted photographers and historians of photography. Her work was included in Light and Lens: Photography in the Digital Age by Robert J. Hirsch, pp. 256.
