Biography
Anne Archer (born August 24, 1947) is an American actress. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the 1987 film Fatal Attraction. Her other film appearances include Paradise Alley (1978), Patriot Games (1992), Short Cuts (1993), Clear and Present Danger (1994), and Lullaby (2014).
On stage, she starred as Mrs. Robinson in the West End production of The Graduate in 2001, and in the title role of The Trial of Jane Fonda at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Early life
Archer was born on August 24, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of actors John Archer and Marjorie Lord.
She is a graduate of Pitzer College in Claremont, California (1968.)
Career
Archer began acting professionally after finishing her graduation from Pitzer College. She appeared as Ramona in the "Ramona Pageant" in Hemet, California before moving to New York.
She made her screen debut in 1970, in the role of Annette Porter in an episode of Men at Law. Her other TV credits in the early 70s include Hawaii Five-O, The Mod Squad, Ironside, and Little House on the Prairie. She was a regular on the short-lived sitcom Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice in 1973.
Archer was named Miss Golden Globe in 1971.
Archer's first feature film was The Honkers (1972) co-starring opposite James Coburn and Lois Nettleton. The same year, she was seen in Paul Bogart's mystery-comedy Cancel My Reservation, starring Bob Hope and Eva Marie Saint. In 1976, she starred as Cathy in Lifeguard, opposite Sam Elliott.
Archer was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Beth Gallagher in the film Fatal Attraction (1987). Her other prominent film roles include Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994).
In 2001, Archer portrayed Mrs. Robinson at the Gielgud Theatre in a West End production of The Graduate. Also in the 2000s, she had recurring roles on several television shows such as Boston Public, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Ghost Whisperer. From 2008 to 2009, she starred in the short-lived The CW comedy-drama Privileged.
In 2014, she played Jane Fonda in the premier production of the play The Trial of Jane Fonda, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Most recently, Archer played FBI Director Jordan in two episodes of the TV series Paper Empire. She is also working on Stephen Savage's drama Ulysses Coyote, in which she will be sharing the screen with Mhairi Calvey and Emily Peachey. The release date is yet to be announced.
Personal life
Archer married William Davis in 1969; the couple divorced in 1977. They had one son, Thomas William "Tommy" Davis, born on August 18, 1972.
She married Terry Jastrow in 1979 and had one son together, Jeffrey Tucker Jastrow, born on October 18, 1984.
Archer was originally a Christian Scientist, but she and her husband have been members of the Church of Scientology since 1975. Between 1982 and 1986, she was a spokeswoman for Applied Scholastics, the literacy training organization sponsored by the Church of Scientology. Her son Tommy Davis was the head of the Church of Scientology's Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles.
In 1991, Archer spoke out about her abortion in the book The Choices We Made: Twenty-Five Women and Men Speak Out About Abortion.
