Biography

Angelina Muñiz-Huberman ([anxeˈlina muˈɲis uˈβermãn]; born December 29, 1936–) is a Mexican writer and poet. She is a recipient of the Xavier Villaurrutia Award and the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize.

Biography

She was born in Hyères in France to parents who had fled the Spanish Civil War. She converted to Judaism after discovering her Sephardic ancestry. After briefly living in Cuba, in 1942 the Muñiz family moved to Mexico City. She studied at City University of New York and at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and has . Ph.D. in literature. She is a professor of comparative literature at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

Muñiz-Huberman won the 1985 Xavier Villaurrutia Award for her short story "Huerto Cerrado, Huerto Sellado". In 1993, she won the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize for Dulcinea Encantada. In 2003, the Woman of Valor Award.
