Andrew Sluyter

Andrew Sluyter is an American geographer and professor at Louisiana State University. He specializes in historical and cultural geography, with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Andrew Sluyter's research interests include landscapes and ecology, environmental history, historical geography, and human-environment interactions. He has conducted extensive research in countries such as Haiti, Mexico, and Venezuela.

Andrew Sluyter received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley. He then earned his Master of Arts and Doctorate degrees in Geography from the University of Chicago.

Andrew Sluyter has authored several books, including "Black Ranching Frontiers: African Cattle Herders of the Atlantic World, 1500-1900" and "The Caribbean and the Atlantic World Economy: Circuits of Trade, Money, and Knowledge, 1650-1914." He has also edited volumes such as "Colonialism and Landscape in French Louisiana: The Mississippi Valley under France and Spain."

Andrew Sluyter has received numerous awards and honors for his work. He was elected a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in 2018. He has also been awarded the Carl O. Sauer Distinguished Scholarship Award by the Cultural and Political Ecology Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers.
