Biography

Andrea Datzman (born November 2, 1980) is an American singer and composer known for her long-time collaboration with film/television/video games composer Michael Giacchino. They are behind the soundtrack for several Hollywood hits including Mission: Impossible III (2006), Monte Carlo (2011), Land of the Lost (2009), and Thor: Love and Thunder (2012).

Early life and education

Andrea Datzman was born Andrea Kathryn Datzman in Contra Costa County, California, on November 2, 1980. She got her start in music at a young age, learning piano and singing by the age of eight. She received her formal music education at the University of California in Santa Barbara (Bachelor of Music Composition).

After her graduation, Datzman studied with classical composer and pianist Andrew Imbrie for a year and then enrolled in the Motion Pictures & Television graduate program at the University of Southern California.

Career

Datzman began her professional music career in the early 2000s, serving as an additional orchestrator to John Ottman for Shane Black's dark comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang starring Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. She then began working for famed film composer Michael Giacchino and assisted him in composing the music for J. J. Abrams' award-winning hit Mission: Impossible III starring Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Billy Crudup, and Michelle Monaghan. Her 2007 work with Giacchino on Ratatouille helped Giacchino receive an Academy Award nomination for the soundtrack and a win (IFMCA) for Film Score of the Year.

Most recently, in 2024, Datzman led the soundtrack composition for Kelsey Mann's animation Inside Out 2.

In 2010-2012, she led the composition for the TV series Alcatraz (2012, 10 episodes) and Undercovers (2010-2012, 12 episodes). In 2021, Datzman and Curtis Green created music for 5 episodes of the Disney+ animation TV series Dug Days.

In addition to Giacchino, she has also worked with a few others, most notably George Shaw on Benjamin Williams' horror J-ok'el (2017) starring Tom Parker, Ana Patricia Rojo, Dee Wallace, Jesús Ochoa, Pablo Bracho.
