Biography

Āmitis (Persian: آمیتیس ) was the wife of Cyrus the Great and therefore queen of the Persian Achaemenid Empire. She was the daughter of Astyages, King of Media. She may have been sent to Cyrus by Astyages in the same way Astyages sent Mandane to Cambyses I.

Etmology

The name Amitis means "wise friend" in Old Persian.
