Biography

Amina Khalil (Arabic: أمينة خليل‎; born 26 October 1988) is an Egyptian film and television actress. She has performed in many artistic works, whether in the cinema or in television, and had gained prominence in the late 2010s and early 2020s in the Arab world.

Early life

Diana Khalil studied acting at the The American University in Cairo and graduated in 2009. Thereafter, Khalil travelled to the United States and studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City. Besides acting, she also studied ballet from her childhood until she was 17.

Career

Her roles in the films Asham (2012), Khetta Badeela (2015) and Sukkar Mor (2015) were critically acclaimed. Her breakout role occurred in the 2016 television show Grand Hotel (also known as Secret of the Nile), and her recent success was the 2018 TV series Layalie Eugenie (Eugenie Nights), both of which are on Netflix. Moreover, Khalil has played various dramatic roles in Taraf Tallet, Sharbat Loze, Nekdeb Law Olna Mabenhebesh, Saheb El Saada and Wallei El Ahd.

She cites Marion Cotillard as her acting inspiration. She has also expressed desire to play a lead in the action movie genre that is, in her words, "Lara Croft style, or like Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games". Furthermore, she has sung with Egyptian hip hop artist Zap Tharwat.

Personal life

She married paragliding specialist Karim El Khashab in 2015, and separated from him after a short time. In July 2020, Khalil was engaged to Egyptian businessman and engineer Omar Taha. Her hobbies include kitesurfing, being at the beach and swimming.

In October 2020, Khalil fell ill with COVID-19, but has since made a healthy recovery.

In June 2021, the actress, who has been an active proponent of women and their health in Egypt, was named an honorary goodwill ambassador by the United Nations Population Fund.
