Biography

Ambadi Ikkavamma (12 January 1898 – 30 January 1980) was an Indian Malayalam language writer and translator. Apart from Malayalam, she was also well versed in English, Hindi and Sanskrit language literature.

Life and career

Ikkavamma was born in Tripunithura in 1898 as the daughter of Naniamma and Kochu Govinda Menon of Ambadi house. She completed her primary education in Thripunithura and completed her high school education from St. Teresa's Convent. Ikkavamma who served as a teacher for a long time, was also a musical virtuoso. Most of her works are translations from other languages. Anasakti Yoga and letters from a father to his daughter (Jawaharlal Nehru) are prominent among them. The work she wrote titled Balakathagal (Children's stories) was awarded the Children's Literature Award in 1956 by the Government of India.
