Biography

Alvin Brooks III (born September 11, 1979) is an American college basketball coach currently serving as an assistant coach at Baylor University under head coach Scott Drew. Brooks is the son of former Houston coach Alvin Brooks.

Playing and coaching

Born in Houston, Texas, Brooks played two seasons at Midland College (1998 to 2000), where he helped the Chaparrals to a sixth-place finish in the 2000 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament before transferring to Idaho State. He played two years for the Bengals (2000 to 2002) under head coach Doug Oliver, earning Academic All-Big Sky Conference honors as a senior in 2002. He earned his bachelor's degree in finance in 2002 and his master's degree in athletics administration in 2003 from the school.

Brooks broke into the coaching ranks at the junior college level, spending two years as an assistant coach at Arkansas–Fort Smith and one year as an assistant coach at Midland College. Following that he spent three years as an assistant couch at Bradley, where he help the Bradley to two 20+ winning game seasons. In 2010 Brooks left Bradley to be an assistant at Sam Houston State for head coach Jason Hooten.

After working four years as an assistant at Kansas State, Brooks left after the 2015–16 season for a similar role at Baylor, located in his native Texas.
