Ali Moosa Didi

Ali Moosa Didi was renowned for his poetry and his work as a historian. He had pursued his passion for poetry and continued publishing his writings until his death. He has published many books.

Ali Moosa Didi had been infamously jailed during the tenure of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom due to controversial writings in Didi's diary with reference to the president. His bold criticism of the political situations in the Maldives had also landed him in jail for 17 years during the regimes of Former Presidents Ibrahim Nasir and Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Subsequently, he penned a book titled “Jaluge Dhuniye” which talks about life in prison.

Ali Moosa Didi was a member of the Maldives parliament who founded to reform the Constitution. He is also well versed in carpentry, construction, welding and plumbing, and many other works.

Ali Moosa Didi had undergone a bypass surgery six years ago. However, his surgery was followed by a stroke which deteriorated his health henceforth.

Ali Moosa Didi was married thrice and is succeeded by children from all three marriages.
