Biography

Albert Stenwedel (10 September 1908 – 29 July 1997) was a Sturmbannführer (Major) in the Waffen-SS during World War II, who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.
Sturmbannführer Albert Stenwedel was born on the 10 September 1908 in Hamburg, Germany. He was an early volunteer for the SS (SS service number 28 762). During World War II he became the commander of the II.Battalion, 27th Waffen Gebirgsjager Regiment, 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian) and was awarded the Knight's Cross near the end of the war in May 1945. He survived the war and died in his hometown of Hamburg on the 29 July 1997.
