Albert Spencer Wilcox

Albert Spencer Wilcox was a businessman and politician from Hawaii. He served as the governor of Kauai from 1888 to 1892 and again from 1896 to 1902. He was also involved in the sugar industry and was a prominent figure in the development of Kauai's economy during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Wilcox was born on October 23, 1844, in Hilo, Hawaii. He was the son of Ephraim Wilcox and Mary Sophronia Marshall Wilcox. His family came from Massachusetts and were among the first group of missionaries to settle in Hawaii.

Wilcox played a significant role in the development of Kauai's sugar industry. He established the Hanamaulu Sugar Plantation in 1879, which became one of the largest and most successful plantations on the island. His efforts helped to diversify Kauai's economy and create job opportunities for the local population.

He served as a representative in the legislature of the Kingdom of Hawaii, and later became a member of the executive council under King Kalākaua.
