Biography

Albert Jamil Butros is a retired Jordanian Ambassador and eremited Dean (education) of the University of Jordan.

Career

He visited universities and research centers in: Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Kuwait, Sudan, Morocco, Algeria, Qatar, Turkey, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Belgium, the Soviet Union, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Australia, Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Iceland.
From 1950 to 1955 he taught English language and Mathematics at Elementary and Secondary School in two Amman Private Schools.
From 1955 to 1958 he got from the Jordan Ministry of Education a British Council Scholarship to England.
From 1958 to 1960 he instructed English studies at the Teachers’ College, Amman.
From 1960 to 1963 he got from the Jordan Ministry of Education a Smith–Mundt Act Scholarship in the United States:
In 1961 he lectured English studies at the Hunter College, City University of New York.
From 1962 to 1963 he instructed English at the Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
From 1963 to 1965 he assisted the research of an English Professor at the University of Jordan.
From 1965 to 1967 he was Associate English Professor at the University of Jordan.
From 1964 to 1967 he was Acting Chairman, Department of English, University of Jordan.
From 1967 to 1979 he was English Professor at the University of Jordan.
From 1967 to 1973 and from 1974 to 1976 he was Chairman of the Department of English at the, University of Jordan.
From July 19 to September 2, 1969 he enjoyed a Leaders’ Grant to the United States.
From 1971 to 1972 he was Visiting Professor of English at the Wesleyan University in Ohio.
From 000000001973-02-26-0000February 26, 1973 to 000000001976-06-12-0000June 12, 1976 he was Dean of Research and Graduate Studies of the University of Jordan.
From 1976 to 1984 he was Director General/President, Royal Scientific Society in Amman.

From 1987 to 1991 he was ambassador in London with concurrent non-resident Diplomatic accreditation 1988 in Dublin (Ireland), and 1990 in Reykjavík (Iceland)
From 1995 to 1996 he was Visiting English studies Professor at the Jordan University for Women in Amman.
