Art
Hernandez's works, inspired by the environment, often deliver a strong political or social message. The themes he addresses in these works are often linked to the problems of immigration as illustrated in his series entitled "Time Passes."
Hernandez expresses his style through the use of different mediums such as photography, painting as well as unusual elements such as glass, mud or industrial materials. The Perimeter sculpture illustrates this kind of combination of mediums, which represents a silver missile that swivels from side to side depending on the movement of people as detected by a motion sensor.
One of the main influences of Hernandez is the celebrated Italian artist Mario Merz (1925-2003), husband of Italian sculptor Marisa Merz.
Quotes
I've made a few pieces that have brought me some attention and have made a good impression with people who like art that makes you think. I've been fortunate that people seem to get the ideas. I hope my work will keep evolving, and that I'll be able to keep living from my work so I won't have to do anything that takes me away from it.
I work with the idea of limits, borders, as much for the individual as for society,... my themes tend to be political, often with a relationship to migratory problems, problems that are not totally local, but international.
