Biography

Agustina López de Osornio (1769-1845) was an Argentine noble lady, mother of the Restorer of the Laws Don Juan Manuel de Rosas.

Biography

Agustina López de Osornio was born in Buenos Aires, daughter of Clemente López de Osornio and his second wife María Manuela Rubio Díaz Gamiz. In 1783 his father dies defending his ranch after an Indian attack, raid in which his brother Andres also died killed by the Indians. After the death of her father, she administered his estancia known as Rincón de López. In 1790 Agustina was married to León Ortiz de Rozas, a rich military and rancher born in Buenos Aires.

Agustina López de Osornio was a descendant of illustrious Criollas families including Silverio Casco de Mendoza Ruiz de Ocaña, (descendant of Melchor Casco de Mendoza) and his wife Lorenza Machado, granddaughter of Gil González de Moura and Inés Núñez Cabral, fidalgos from Portugal. By patrilineal was a descendant of The Dukes of Normandy.
