Biography

Agustín Wright (1748-1817) was an Argentine merchant, military, politicians and landowner, He founded the first "saladero" establishment in Buenos Aires Province.

Biography

Agustín was born in Buenos Aires, son of Charles Wright and Marina Prans, daughter of a family of Scottish and Creole origin, established in the city. His father born in London, had come to Río de la Plata with The South Sea Company. Wright was married to Estanislada Tartaz, daughter of a Basque family. They were parents of Agustín Francisco Wright, journalist, historian and legislator in Buenos Aires.

In 1798, Wright opened the first saladero of South America, located in the vicinity of the town of Ensenada. He participated of the defense of Buenos Aires during the English invasions, serving as Captain in the Regiment of Patricians.

In 1813 Agustín Wright was elected Alcalde in 2nd vote, he died in 1817, a year after the Declaration of Independence of Argentina.
