Biography

Adolph Busemann (born 20 April 1901 in Lübeck, Germany, died 1986 in Boulder, Colorado) was a German professor of aerodynamics at the University of Göttingen. He was first to propose the swept wing (what Germans called Pfeilflügel, or "arrow wing") at a 1935 conference on aerodynamics. He later headed the German aircraft research center at Völkenrode, Braunschweig.
After the Second World War, Busemann was among the German aerodynamicists brought to the U.S. by special permission of the State Department.
