Adelard Archambault (April 24, 1860 – February 19, 1923) was an American lawyer and politician from Rhode Island.
Life and career
Adelard Archambault was born on April 24, 1860, in Saint-Paul, Lanaudiere Region, Quebec, Canada, to Francois Xavier Archambault and Delphine Bouthillier.
Archambault graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from L'Assomption College in Quebec. He then immediately joined his parents in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where they had previously emigrated to some time ago.
He studied law for 3 years and was called to the Bar in Massachusetts in 1888. Initially, he practiced law in Holyoke, Massachusetts. In 1890, he was called to the Bar in Rhode Island, where he established himself in Woonsocket, where he lived ever since. Since 1895, he was Commissioner of the Superior Court of the province of Québec for the United States.
Later, he got involved in politics as a member of the Democratic Party. In 1901-1902, he took a seat in the Deputies' Chamber in Rhode Island. The following year, he was elected the Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island (1903 – 1904). Beaten in 1904, he campaigned for himself in the municipal politic and became mayor of Woonsocket in 1906 and 1907. In 1916, he returned as mayor of Woonsocket for the third time.
Death
Archambault died on February 19, 1923, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, at the age of 62.
