Abraham Chasanow

Abraham Chasanow is an American attorney and judge who currently serves as a Senior United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Chasanow received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland in 1964 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1967.

Chasanow began his legal career as a clerk to Judge Harrison L. Winter of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit from 1967 to 1968. He worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Maryland Attorney General from 1968 to 1971. Chasanow then entered private practice, specializing in civil litigation, from 1971 to 1993. He was appointed as a United States bankruptcy judge for the District of Maryland in 1993 and served in that role until his appointment to the district court in 1997.

During his tenure as a judge, Chasanow has presided over several high-profile cases. These include the trial of former Maryland Governor Marvin Mandel for mail fraud and racketeering, as well as the trial of former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh for fraud and tax evasion.

Chasanow assumed senior status on June 24, 2018.
