Biography
Aarti Lohia is an Indian-born international art collector, art patron, and philanthropist.Recognized by the American magazine ARTnews as one of the world’s top 200 collectors, she gained prominence for her contributions to the arts and her philanthropic efforts in various sectors. She is the daughter-in-law of london based industrialist Sri Prakash Lohia. She currently resides in London with her husband, Amit Lohia, and their three children. Her son, Sohum Lohia, is a skilled chess player, holding the prestigious title of FIDE Master. Sohum has achieved the remarkable distinction of winning multiple British championship titles and several international tournaments.
Aarti Lohia's philanthropic endeavors have been made possible with the support of her father-in-law, Sri Prakash Lohia, who serves as the Chairman of Indorama Corporation a renowned family-owned organization. Together, the Lohia family has initiated and overseen numerous charitable ventures in education, healthcare, and sports. The Lohia family collaborates with and supports impactful charities in Asia, Africa, and the United Kingdom.
Lohia holds key positions within philanthropic organizations, including as Chairperson of the SP Lohia Foundation and Indorama Charitable Trust. Since 2015, she has been the lead donor, supporting the building of the India Foundation for the Arts Archive, The IFA Archive, based in Bangalore, India. Additionally, Lohia serves on several prestigious international councils and committees, such as the Victoria & Albert Museum's International Council, the South Asian Acquisitions Committee at Tate Modern, the Serpentine Gallery's International Council, the British Fashion Council Foundation, and MOMA's David Rockefeller Council. She is recognized as a valuable member of the National Gallery's Modern and Contemporary Programme's Advisory Panel, holding the position of Leading Philanthropic Partner.
Lohia's contributions to the art world have been acknowledged globally. In 2016, she was listed in Apollo magazine's "40 under 40 Asia Pacific" list, which recognizes influential individuals in the art community. While Lohia is an ardent patron of South Asian contemporary art, she also emphasizes the importance of preserving India's unique cultural heritage for future generations. As a Founding Patron and trustee of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale Foundation, she actively supports and promotes artistic excellence.
