Adelphia Dane Bowen Jr. (January 26, 1927 – July 18, 2011) was an American career diplomat, Professor Emeritus of History and Economics of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, published genealogist.
He served (1955–80) successively in U.S. Embassies in Switzerland, Paraguay, Sweden, Ecuador, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. He was National Security Advisor for Latin America to Treasury Secretaries John Connally, George Shultz, and William E. Simon.
In President Jimmy Carter's State Department, he was Deputy Coordinator and Acting Coordinator of Cuban Affairs. In 1979 he was Chief of an inter-angency delegation to Havana to negotiate issues with the Castro regime.
As a Professor at Lock Haven University he:
- became an exchange professor behind the Iron Curtain to Lublin, Polandin 1984
- was in India on a Fulbright grant in 1985, and 3) went in 1988 to Changsha, Hunan Province, China, to launch an international education exchange program by becoming a professor there.
His service ended there at the time of the Tiananmen Square massacre in June 1989.
