Silvester Vogrinec

Biography

Although he was born in Maribor, he spent most of his life in Ptuj, the oldest Slovenian town, which was an important Roman outpost in antiquity and has a beautiful medieval castle on a hill. He went to  Primaary School and  High School Gymnasium, linguistic and social sciences. He studied history and social and moral education at the Pedagogical Academy, University of Maribor. After graduation, he continued his studies in history and sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana. He graduated in Economics from the DOBA College of Business, Faculty of Maribor. He's finishing his master’s degree in inclusive pedagogy at the Faculty of Education Koper, University of Primorska. He earned the professional title of librarian at the National University Library in Ljubljana. He's employed as a teacher and school librarian in education. He spent some time in journalism and publishing. He was the editor-in-chief of the BUDO Sensei martial arts magazine, the editor-in-chief of the Slovenian Karate magazine (publisher of the Karate Federation of Slovenia) and the assistant editor-in-chief of the Croatian martial arts magazine Samurai. He was also editor-in-chief of newspaper Ptuj Drum. For the AURA magazine and the Staemark weekly, he wrote articles on the subject of spirituality. He's also master of martial arts (karate, aikido, samurai swordsmanship) and teaches on Academy of Martial Arts in Ptuj. Martial Arts are an important source of his literary and publicistic work.

He is the founder of the Slovenian martial arts novel and also one of the beginners of the Slovenian sports novel. 

Marital Arts and Sports novel

Karate Fighter 1: The White Seagull and Karate Fighter 2: Duel - the main character, student Robert Resnik, confronts violent trainer Viktor Kostolomc in the first novel, and in the second novel, he clashes with revenge swordsman Mark Sordi, the world champion of kendo, samurai sports swordplay.

Gladiator - the protagonist Benjamin Marolt is the champion of contact martial arts (kickboxing, boxing, K-1, vale tudo, UFC). In the novel, we follow his rise, successes and pitfalls that glory brings. The relationship he has with his coach Milan Prosenica is very important, as he is not only his mentor, protector, manager, but also his best friend and father figure, which the champion still needs to stay on track. But temptations are too high. The champion eventually succumbs to them and becomes increasingly entangled with the criminal underground. The dramatic end comes when the price of fame and success must be paid.

Slovenian Elektra: Fighter of Light - karate girl Polonca studies at the Martial Arts Academy. But older club members do not accept it. Especially her life is driven by national champion, beauty Maya. The relationship intensifies when the young karate champion Mare appears, adored by all the girls. Polonca qualifies for the World Championship and realizes the price of medals.

Kenin: The Bodyguard  - Boris Stanovnik is a 21st century samurai. He is the master of the aikido, kenjutsu and kyushujutsu. His warrior name is the Silver Eagle. The profession he pursues at home and abroad leads him to the most exotic places in the world. It meets politicians, players, businessmen, athletes, scientists, musicians, fashion representatives. When people find themselves in danger and feel threatened, they call him, because Boris Stanovnik is Kenin, a bodyguard.

Youth novel

Disco Queen - at the Butterfly Disco, Risto is the main guy. Andreja is a young, inexperienced girl who comes from the village to live in the city. Risto and Frank make a bet. King has to make an outsider from to the disco queen. If he succeeds, he will get a yamaha motor. But something unexpected happens. The tired Risto falls in love with Andrea. But this is just the beginning of their problems and the ordeal. 

Return of the Disco King - Risto returns to the Butterfly Disco, alone. His generation is no longer in the disco since eight years have passed. Nevertheless, he regains his former status as king. Win a new baby, young beauty Masha, the new Disco Queen. Super Li disco opens and becomes a big hit. The Butterfly is increasingly empty. Risto is losing ground under her feet. Has his time passed? He is haunted by the shadows of the past. What happened to Andrea, his love? Will he be able to find a new meaning to life?

High School Graduate - A generation of high school students are finishing up their education. With his classmates Diana and Helena, Zoran remembers the sweet-hearted moments of growing up, love, friendships, disappointments, deceit.

Ana: The Forbidden Love - reveals the forbidden love of a female student for a teacher and shows what it is like to be a victim of the media lynching.

Science Fiction novel and short stories

To The End and Beyond - it's about the afterlife, karma, reincarnation, angels, masters of wisdom. 

He has published short science fiction stories during his studies at the student newspaper Katedra and magazine Sirius. 

Love novel 

Love in Paris describes a love story between a Slovenian professor, a writer seeking new inspiration, and a French student, a young model, haunted by the shadows of the past.

Poetry

His poetic collection Apocalypse Now belongs to postmodern poetry.
