Biography

William M. Dennis (1810 - July 18, 1882) was an American businessman and politician.
Born in Rhode Island, he moved to Wisconsin Territory, in 1837, and settled in Watertown. There, he was the first postmaster and later president of a bank. He served in the first Wisconsin Constitutional Convention of 1846 as a Democrat. Dennis served in the Wisconsin State Senate in 1848-49 and then in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1853. From 1854 to 1858, Dennis served as Wisconsin Bank Comptroller. Finally, he served as Mayor of Watertown, Wisconsin. He died in Watertown, Wisconsin in 1882.
