Biography
William Goodsell Rockefeller (May 21, 1870 – November 30, 1922) was a director of the Consolidated Textile Company and a member of the prominent Rockefeller family.
Early life
Born on May 21, 1870, Rockefeller was the third child of Standard Oil co-founder William Avery Rockefeller Jr. (1841–1922) and Almira Geraldine Goodsell.
Career
His father had become a large shareholder of the National City Bank and his alliance with the Stillman family was sealed by the marriage of his two sons with two Stillman daughters. Rockefeller's brother, director Percy Avery Rockefeller (1878–1934), married Elsie's sister Isabel Goodrich Stillman.
Children
On November 21, 1895, Rockefeller married Sarah Elizabeth "Elsie" Stillman, daughter of National City Bank president James Jewett Stillman and Sarah Elizabeth Rumrill. They had four sons and a daughter:
- William Avery Rockefeller III (August 8, 1896 – October 14, 1973)
- Godfrey Stillman Rockefeller (May 1, 1899 – February 23, 1983)
- James Stillman Rockefeller (June 8, 1902 – August 10, 2004)
- John Sterling Rockefeller (October 28, 1904 – May 10, 1988)
- Almira Geraldine Rockefeller (December 28, 1907 – June 11, 1997)
