Biography

Travis Charles Coons (born February 6, 1992) is an American football placekicker and is currently a free agent. He played college football at Washington. He has been a member of the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL).

College career

Coons played in 26 career games in two years at Washington. He was named second-team All-Pac-12 as a punter and honorable mention All-Pac-12 as a kicker in his final year as he connected on 24 of 30 career field goal attempts (80.0 percent) and averaged 40.1 yards on 116 punts. At Washington, he majored in American Ethnic Studies.

Prior to his two years at Washington, spent two years at Mt. San Antonio College and helped the Mounties to a 10-2 overall record, the Southern California championship and a trip to the California state title game.

Professional career

Tennessee Titans

Following the 2014 NFL Draft, Coons was signed by the Tennessee Titans. He was waived on September 1, 2014.

Cleveland Browns

Coons was signed by the Browns on December 30, 2014. During the 2015 preseason, Coons beat out Carey Spear for the starting kicker job. On September 20, 2015, against the Tennessee Titans, Coons kicked a season & career-high four PATs. On October 4, 2015, against the San Diego Chargers, Coons kicked a season & career-high four field goals. On October 11, 2015, against the Baltimore Ravens, Coons kicked 4 field goals, including the game-winner to win 33-30 in overtime. On January 3, 2015, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Coons kicked 4 field goals, which was their only points in the 28-12 loss.

Coons kicked 28 field goals in the 2015 season, which as of 2016 was the fourth most in a single season in Cleveland Browns history, behind Phil Dawson (30 in 2008, 29 in 2012) and Matt Stover (29 in 1995).

He was released by the Browns on August 29, 2016.
