Biography
Tony (Anthony) Steuer, CLU, LA (born 1964) is an American author, essayist, speaker, and advocate in the fields of financial education, personal finance, and life insurance. He is best known for his book Questions and Answers on Life Insurance: The Life Insurance Toolbook. Steuer's focus is on improving financial literacy in the U.S. Steuer has published articles for several online magazines, including Nolo.com, The Nest, and Love to Know. He is licensed to provide non-biased advice on life insurance as an Individual Life and Disability Insurance Analyst (LA). He is a frequent guest on radio programs, including The Prudent Money show and Your Financial Editor. He is currently appointed by the California Insurance Commissioner to serve on the Curriculum Board for the California Department of Insurance.
Background
Steuer was born on March 8, 1964 in San Francisco, California. He was raised in San Francisco and later moved to Marin County where he attended Redwood High School. He attended California State University Chico and was an intern for a free legal information service on campus, C.L.I.C. (Community Legal Information Center). He graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. He has volunteered as a white water rafting guide and as a Wilderness First Responder Instructor. Prior to commencing his own practice in 1995, Tony was an Assistant Vice President with Acordia-Lloyd, a multi-line insurance brokerage firm. Steuer was also recently the Director of Financial Preparedness for United Policyholders for Life, Disability, Long Term and Annuities.
Today
Steuer serves on the Advisory Board of the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Foundation. His service as an educator and advocate for financial literacy continues with free, online tools and information on his blog and website. On April 20, 2011, he received the Excellence In Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Award for his book, "Questions and Answers on Life Insurance" and on April 18, 2012 received the EIFLE award for his book "The Questions and Answers on Life Insurance Workbook" Participation in professional associations include the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning, and the Northern California Planned Giving Council. Steuer is a frequent speaker and trainer at conferences, workshops, and community events. He lives with his mother in the Bay Area where he is an active volunteer at his son's school and manages his son’s Little League team.
