Biography

Tivon Pennicott (born December 1985 in Marietta, Georgia) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist.

Of Jamaican parentage, he grew up in Miami, Florida, where he studied music at the University of Miami. While in Los Angeles, he was invited to perform with Kenny Burrell, who was a major influence on him. Pennicott moved to New York City in late 2009, where he formed the Sound Quartet, with pianist Mike Battaglia, bassist Spencer Murphy, and drummer Kenneth Salters. As of February 2015 he had been nominated twice for a Grammy. In 2016 he performed with Gregory Porter, and in August he was artist-in-residence at the annual Charlie Parker Celebration in Kansas City, Missouri. In January 2017 he toured Finland with Joonas Haavisto.
