Maxwell has lived in the Bayview district in San Francisco, California for the last twenty years.

Family

Sophie Maxwell is the daughter of Enola Maxwell who was an activist and a Potrero Hill Neighborhood House executive director. Maxwell also had a son named Rama who died of Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 30.

Politics

Maxwell was first elected to the Board in 2000, when, as a result of the shift from at-large to district elections, she served a transitional two-year term. She was re-elected for four-year terms in November 2002 and November 2006. Her work seems to revolve around issues such as:
