Biography
Robert Henry Thach (November 9, 1866—December 20, 1924) was an American golfer and Olympian.
Life and career
Robert Thach was born in Athens, Alabama, on November 9, 1866, to Eliza Lockhart Coleman Thach (1836–1918) and Robert Henry Thach (1837–1866), a lawyer. He had two brothers—Charles Coleman Thach (1860–1921) and Richard Harman Thach (1865–1888).
Thach followed in his father's footsteps and became an attorney in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was a member of the Birmingham Country Club.
Thach competed in the 1904 Summer Olympics golf tournament held in St. Louis, Missouri. He did not make the match play but qualified for the second flight of the consolation events, where he lost his first-round match to Arthur Hussey from Toledo, Ohio. He shared the forty-fifth place with Charles Willard and George Powell.
Personal life
Thach was married to Stella Mayo Bringier, a Louisiana native. They had a son, Robert Gordon Thach (1891–1955).
Death
Thach died in Birmingham, Alabama, on December 20, 1924, at age 58.
